Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France, to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson both lawyers. At five years old she relocated to Oxfordshire, where she was a student at the Dragon School. From the age of six, Emma was aware that she was going to become an actor and, for a period of years, she trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theater school where she learned to sing, dance and acting. When she was ten Emma was already involved in Stagecoach productions and school plays. In 1999, casting started for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) The movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was approached by casting agents by her Oxford theater teacher. After eight consecutive auditions, David Heyman informed Emma and Rupert Grint that they were given the roles of Hermione Granger as well as Harry Potter. Emma's debut on the cinematic screen was the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It was also the most successful film of the year in terms of weekend and opening-day sales. Critics praised the film and the performance of its actors who were just starting out. The widely read British newspaper, 'The Daily Telegraph' was awed by her performance and called it "admirable". Emma won the Young Artist Award as Leading Young Actress in an Film Film and was nominated to win five more awards. Emma became famous after the success of the debut film in the franchise. Emma continued to play the character as Hermione Granger for a total of 10 years in all the subsequent Harry Potter films: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) as well as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011). Emma was nominated for two Critics' Choice Awards by the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
